A cliff road worth taking yourself
A road carved into the cliffs. The Colorado River far below. No passenger seat.
Why ride Shafer Trail?
A road carved into the cliffs. The Colorado River far below. No passenger seat.
Ride Shafer for the moment Moab stops looking like scenery and starts feeling enormous. This historic dirt road winds below Canyonlands through red-rock benches, the Colorado River corridor and views toward Island in the Sky and Dead Horse Point.
Our ride explores the lower Shafer landscape and builds toward the Thelma & Louise overlook. The terrain is scenic rather than highly technical, so confident bicycle riders can settle in after the orientation. We keep the group to four, adjust power and pace to the rider, and stop long enough for photos that do not look like they were taken through a tour-bus window.
The tour begins and ends at the Colorado River Potash Boat Ramp, around 30 minutes from downtown Moab. You arrive once, gear up at the trailhead and finish back where you started. The exact meeting pin and arrival instructions are included in your confirmation.
